Need to lose weight? Step away from the scales and grab a tape measure. For the second year running Healthy Food Guide is championing the latest expert consensus that your waist is a better measure of your health than your body mass index (BMI). ‘It’s a fact that shedding excess inches from your waistline can reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers,’ says dietitian Juliette Kellow.
But we know it’s not easy. So the HFG Get Waisted challenge is back for 2017. By following our monthly diet planners, cooking our recipes and stepping up your exercise regime, you can gradually lose health-threatening belly fat once and for all.
Taking up the 2017 gauntlet
This year we’re helping two hungry Italians Get Waisted. Valentina Harris is a TV cookery presenter and food writer. Valentina was keen to join the challenge as she feels going public and cooking dietitian-approved recipes will help her stay on track.
Our second candidate is celebrity chef and restaurateur Aldo Zilli, who began to lose weight last autumn but wants to keep it off for good for the sake of his two young children.
For the next six months, Valentina and Aldo will be following HFG healthy eating planners, combined with regular exercise. In addition, they’re each being mentored by our experts, nutrition editor Amanda Ursell and dietitian Jennifer Low.
