The Healthy Food Guide team believe that making small diet and lifestyle changes brings the best long-term gains. We look at the science behind the headlines and promote a balanced way of eating.

At HFG HQ, we receive countless products and new cookbooks to test, and we regularly hit the streets in search of ways to make healthy living easier/more enjoyable. Here, we share the best of the week’s discoveries…

WE HEADED TO… the Houses of Parliament to celebrate Dietitians Week, organised by the British Dietetic Association. This year’s event centred on its Work Ready programme, which aims to get employers and staff to eat better at work. We don’t expect your company to provide a garden plate of canapés like the one we were treated to (pictured), but getting basic equipment, good food options and advice can help cut stress, sick days and help with weight loss. Go to bdaworkready.co.uk for more info.

WE COMBINED TWO LOVES… porridge and chia. The two come together in one fabulously packaged breakfast option from Primose’s Kitchen. Its new organic oatmeal and chia pairing is a winner. Soak your 40g serving the night before for the most easily digestible results, then simmer in the morning for 10 min. Ours turned out deliciously creamy (we added banana slices and dried cranberries for big flavour). Buy it from primroseskitchen.com (£3.99/480g).

WE TRIED… a new loaf. Spotted at Euphorium Bakery in our local Tesco, this rustic ancient grains loaf is made from Nordic wheat flour, oats, rye and barley flakes and enriched with spelt sourdough. The crust (one of the best we’ve ever tasted) is topped with seven seeds of grains. Absolute wholegrain heaven!

WE ATE PANCAKES… at trendy Farringdon outpost Ask for Janice. Nestled between wooden tables and exposed filament light bulbs, we said yes to Friday with these wholesome pancakes served with ricotta, fresh berries and a drizzle of honey.
