Deliciously Ella’s cacao spread

Dollop a spoonful of this thick and sticky vegan cacao spread on a slice of toast, add it to porridge or spread on top of some freshly baked banana bread.

  • 200g pitted dates
  • 600ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 4tbsp cacao powder
  • 1tbsp coconut oil
  • Pinch sea salt


  1. Put the dates in a pan over a medium heat, and cover with the almond milk. Cook for about 15–20 min, stirring occasionally, until a paste has formed.
  2. Add the cacao powder, coconut oil and salt, and stir until combined, adding in a little more almond milk if it becomes too thick.
  3. Once you have a thick paste, remove it from the heat and leave to cool then transfer the paste to a food processor and pulse until smooth.

TIP: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
